That time again - Murphy! Sammy! Max! Front and center!
(Three ferrets - Murphy, a handsome Sable in an RCMP uniform; Sammy, a
Dark-Eyed White with a yarmulke; and Max, another Sable with his hind legs
strapped into a wheelchair device - come rushing up.)
Sammy: Present and accounted for, sir! Birthday time at AFP?
Paul: Yep. Is the cannon in shape for a firing?
Max: Yessir. Skippy, Skippy, Skippy, Skippy and Skippy just did some routine
maintenance yesterday. She's doing fine.
Paul: Very good. I heard Skippy was looking forward to seeing "Attack of the
Clones" again. How did that turn out?
Murphy: Well... You know Episode II was his favorite of the new "Star Wars"
movies. So he was real excited when he got this flyer from some outfit that
was selling tickets to a special theatrical showing. But he didn't look at
the fine print. See for yourself. (Hands piece of paper to Paul.)
Paul (reading): Tickets offered by... Wambo-Zambo Traveling Circus?!? What
is - Hey! "Clones" is crossed out and somebody's written in. Oh, no! Skippy
was in line all week for a circus show entitled "Attack of the Clowns"?
Sammy: Afraid so, sir. We think there was a bit of chicanery involved.
Skippy and a whole lot of fans were upset when they found out.
Voice: YAHHHH!! (Clown comes running by, pursued by ferret wielding a light
saber.)
Clown (Frantically): Hey, ticket sales are down! The circus has gotta
compete! We were just using an advertising gimmick -
Skippy: I'll "gimmick" you!! (Swings light saber around and slices clown's
funny hat in two. Clown runs off, followed by Skippy. Behind comes a crowd
of teenagers with "Star Wars" T-shirts, Yoda ears and blood in their eyes.)
Max: Boy, you wouldn't think that he could run that fast with those big,
floppy shoes, would you?
Paul: Uh, we better get on with this. Bring the Cannon forward!
(Skippy, Skippy, Skippy, Skippy and Skippy - the crack team of ferret
mechanics - push the vintage Civil War cannon into position.)
Paul: Okay, on my mark. Ready... aim... FIRE!
*BOOOOOOOMMM!!*
*WHOOOOOOOOOSSSSHHH!!!*
(Charge explodes in midair, showering alt.fan.pratchett with confetti,
streamers and M&Ms (Plain, Peanut, Ferretone, Alfalfa, Pemmican, Lemon Bar,
Twinkie Weiner, Green Chili and all the other popular flavors). Two banners
float down: HAPPY BIRTHDAYS TO GILLIE HOUCK, CHRIS HILL, ANDROMEDA, ANDREA J
CHEE, TRACY WILKINSON, DAVID DEWILDE, JAMES "DOOFERLAD" TUNNICLIFFE, LINDSAY
ENDELL, JOANNE LACY, MOUSE DAREDEVIL HARRIES, JAN H. HAUL, LARS BALKER
RASMUSSEN, JULIE MONTGOMERY, CLAIRE GAMBLE, MATTHEW DU PLESSIS, IAN ROGERS,
THOMAS P. STEGGELL II, FRODO IN CANADA, A REALLY NICE GUY IN A HAT WHO
WRITES SOME GREAT FANTASY AND GIVES THIS GROUP A REASON FOR EXISTENCE -

a pole to which the whimpering clown has been tied.)
Paul: Hmm - I have a feeling that we haven't seen the end of this.
Skippy (swinging light saber around): Oooh, *great* straight line, boss!
(Clown howls as they carry him off.)
